Contemporary Landscape Paintings

Makoshika State Park #1

Makoshika State Park

Makoshika State Park in eastern Montana is a fascinating place.  The park comprises over 11,000 acres.  The land formations, formed by erosion are quite spectacular.  I have enjoyed countless hours exploring the Badlands and I have painted several paintings of my journeys.  I offer these paintings for sale.  I also have very high-quality signed Giclee prints of these images for sale.

Acrylic Paintings

Glendive Montana is host to some of the most peculiar land formations.  It is a complicated environment, tortured by the elements, yet aesthetically beautiful in its own way.

Makoshika State Park #10

Acrylic painting of the Badlands

The Badlands are created by wind and rain erosion.  Large sandstone rocks rest at the top of melting clay formations.

Badlands Cow

Acrylic painting on birchwood panel

A lone cow stands on a hill looking over the Badlands; appears to be in deep contemplation; but I do not know if it is remembering the past, projecting itself into the future, or just enjoying the ever-present moment.

Badlands #9

Acrylic painting on canvas

The Badlands is an area that farmers consider worthless, but for the artist, the Badlands are aesthetically priceless.

Badlands #6

Acrylic painting on birchwood panel

The Badlands is an area where the environment appears to transform itself in the present moment.  As the day progresses and the sun moves across the sky, there is a shadow play upon the land formations and everything changes from moment to moment, at leastways in the early morning and the late afternoon hours.

Makoshika State Park

Montana's largest state park is located in eastern Montana.  It is a convoluted environment where the land has been sculpted by the wind and the rain.  The erosion formations mark the passage of time.
