I drew this on location and added the pastel in the studio. The mountain in the background is the east side of Sierra Negra, in the Abiquiu area of Rio Arriba, New Mexico.
I put down the ink on location and add the pastel in the studio. I am sitting in some shade, cast by the Plaza Blanca formations that surround me. The desert heat makes a drop of sweat run down my face. A thirsty fly tries to get the moisture. The snow capped Sange de Cristo mountain range is in the distance.
